I visited Argentina back in 2012. I went to Buenos Aires and Mendoza . Argentinians live in a bubble, so I don't know if it was racism, but I felt that these people clearly don't have a lot of black people among them. From the moment I stepped out of my hotel I was stared at and in one store was actually followed, despite the fact that my two traveling companions were both white. Mendoza was better, but I don't think I would ever go back, which is unfortunate because I loved the Argentinian beef and Malbec wine.
ReplyDeleteWhoa that's WILD. I've never been to South America & am especially interested to visit parts of Brazil and Argentina, but it's doubtful the past three years would produce a dissimilar experience from yours. And that's a pity because I like to 'imagine' Buenos Aires would be more...advanced with its European airs.
DeleteThanks for sharing.
There is less than 1% of black native people in Argentina. But in the last years there have been different immigration flows from many American and African countries so the population of black people has (fortunately) increased.
ReplyDeleteRegards from Buenos Aires!
