Senator Evan Bayh has no backbone and no balls. And that's about all he has in common with the Democratic nominee. Between him and Mr Obama the Democratic ticket, were cautious Mr Bayh to be on it, would have the mega-wattage of youth, smile, and funny-sounding cognomens.

But some folks, myself included, would rather bash Bayh than boost him.
