Chris Dickerson - Bodybuilding Hall of Fame Induction 2014

-
Here's amateur footage of legendary bodybuilder Chris Dickerson being inducted to the Hall of Fame earlier this month at the annual Independence Day Mr & Ms Muscle Beach. I specifically entered this year because of it and felt privileged to have met the man. Click here to read about how I fared in my first Venice Beach show (link opens in a new window).

Google has no gay message for World Cup

-
Say, Google, where is your politicized homepage now that another world games is being held?

You do remember the, what would you call it, humanist(?) stance your company so proudly advertised during the Winter Olympics held in Russia, right? The Games which the West tried - in vain - to make all about homosexuality and homosexual persons. Rather than celebrate athletics or the host country or Olympians you made a big show of endorsing 'gay rights'. Your motive was clearly aimed at antagonizing Russia (note: it's not only President Putin who, in tune with Russians, disagree with homosexual propagandizing to the nation's youth).
Why isn't the Google homepage flipping the bird to hunger, poverty, strife -- in solidarity with the oppressed Brazilians?
Today the World Cup is upon us -- ushered in by weeks of protest and Brazilian unrest. The disenfranchised citizens are angry about lack of food, jobs, upward mobility, equal opportunities, unsafe neighborhoods/gang violence, police corruption. In short, human rights. One noticeable exception to their laundry list of angst? Gayness!
Brazil stages one of the planet's largest rainbow parades, with one of the world's largest rainbow flags, is known the world over as a sex destination, and everybody's just fine with same-sex marriage.

And with no bullshit 'gay debate' dividing/pitting Brazilians against Zionist rich countries you have no stance to make on your homepage. I see the letters of Google dancing and playing the drums. Unlike the Brazilians they seem happy.

Hey Google where are you?

Why isn't the Google homepage flipping the bird to hunger, poverty, strife -- in solidarity with the oppressed Brazilians? Could it owe to the white notion that all brown peoples are perennially happy and full of dance?

Larry Scott, champion bodybuilder 1938-2014

-
I just learned Larry Scott passed away over a week ago. Only yesterday I was flipping through my collection of Physique Pictorial and paused to look at a photograph of him posing his bicep. I am a little surprised not to have heard about his death in more real-time. Even though I haven't a television I read the headlines daily and follow some fitness and bodybuilding Twitter accounts. Guess that speaks volumes of the state of the sport. (I bet if any bodybuilder had, say, died from cardiac arrest owing to preparation for a contest before/during/after the event there would have been a media frenzy cautioning (parents) against the dangers of the sport.)
what gains a man if he has everything but loses his soul?
In addition to his regional, Mr America and Mr Universe titles, Mr Scott was the first winner of the Mr Olympia competition, a contest invented and organized by Canadian muscle entrepreneur Joe Weider and brother. He successfully defended the title the following year -- and promptly retired. At 28 years old! Years later he would admit the real motivation behind the unexpected move: fear. In biblical parlance, what gains a man if he has everything but loses his soul? Mr Scott, newly wed, uprooted from L.A. and resettled in Utah where he gained spiritual fulfillment in Mormonism and operated gyms and fitness supplement businesses.

When I was in the 7th Grade I remember reading an ad in a comic book  and writing to Larry Scott for the advertised booklet on muscle building. He never replied and I never got the booklet, and I wrote him an angry letter in turn. From that point onward I didn't like him so much. (But years later when I got into the sport and modeling his images were among the dozens I would photocopy to study and practice in my room and gym mirrors; yes all those mirrors serve a real purpose, folks.) Mr Scott's health and vigor were impeccable and his legendary biceps were authentically some 20" big...unlike this fool here.

and how!

Are you a fan of fitness like me? Would love to hear back from readers who met Larry Scott or saw him guest pose.

Opening Ceremony Sochi Olympics

-
I loved the Opening Ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014. It was surreal and spot-on 'dreamlike' true to the organizers' aim. The section with Peter the Great travelling aboard the ship was too cool! My eyes were tricked from start to end.

Man, woman and woman, man; or Russia's anti-gay laws

-

This week Yelena Isinbayava, Russian world champion-,  gold medalist-, and world record holding pole vaulter, "offended" Western sensibilities by speaking in support of Russia's anti-gay laws which, the world media immediately translated as her being a bigot against homosexuality.

The proud heterosexual, who is taking time off from competition in order to have a child, said in poor English, "we just live boys with women, girls with boys...it comes from the history." Indeed. Without the sexual unions of men and women there would be no history. Because there would be no people! We'd all be dead and never born.
man is meant for woman and woman, for man is only controversial for a mixed-up peoples
When the FACTS of evolutionary science are dismissed in lieu of popular culture, then that throbbing you feel behind your eye-balls is blood rushing to your head -- from being upside down for too long. Maybe the world looks better upside down but if you stay that way, you will die. The great scientist Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species - and most familiar tenet "survival of the fittest" - was an affront to paramount religious ignorance at the time (and still bothers modern day Creationists). Progressives championed Darwinism and science as a light bearer to mankind. Reason acknowledges the merit of his ground-breaking investigation and the bravery it took to publish and defend it. Now, our progressives of the day balk at and whine and threaten boycotts against anything which does not endorse or dares to judge cavalier popular culture -- including science. Oh how times have changed.

Declaring that man is meant for woman and woman, for man is only radical or controversial for a mixed-up peoples; for a narcissistic, coddled, short-sighted peoples weaned on disposable instant gratification and the virtues of glamour, indiscretion, globalization. To the latter: If we believe and accept this over here, then y'all over there must believe it, too.

One people, one mind. DANGEROUS.
 Anticreation equals death
The human species cannot procreate itself - again: pro-create - via man & man or lesbianism no matter how much love is involved or how good-looking they are; by its very nature homosexuality is the very essence of anticreation. Anticreation equals death. I do not speak about the appeal, pleasure, coolness du jour of homosexuality - nor the naturalness of the act - but what can be less normal? Making love to a brick, perhaps?

The Great White Hope...is black!

-
White sports fans are never short on the lookout for the reverse token player that will 'tilt' the sports (or genre e.g., Vanilla Ice, Marky Mark and Emminem) away from the cool, dominating black player and back to them. In athletic parlance it is known as the Great White Hope. And they have found it -- in Jason Collins.

They thought they had a handle on Cassius Clay (who had the audacity to convert to the Nation of Islam and fail the military draft physical) and Arthur Ashe (the little uppity wimp) and O.J. Simpson (but he sorely 'let them down') and Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods (oh they're still pissed at him). Funny how they never coddled the Williams sisters. Oh well. Now, ladies and gentlemen, as thee gay pro athlete Jason Collins couldn't be any less threatening if he were Steve Nash. Yes, there is that queer Puerto Rican boxer but, well, he just ain't black enough to be considered a "historic homosexual". Hooray-hoorah their progressive poster boy has arrived!

Ralph Lauren Olympic faux pas

-
Ralph Lauren is about image

...therefore his "designs" (how one can call a thing his design when all he does is buy in bulk and sew a logo on it, beats me) look the American spirit with red, WHITE, and blue prosperity; but in this case he even missed that mark. I'm speaking of the Summer Olympics and the ceremonial uniforms for American athletes.

Oh the photographer did well to include the American flag in the above image but, barring that, I think the chap appears quite French (notice the beret) or, perhaps, Swedish aristocracy. He most definitely does not strike me as American; save, of course, for the big - gauche - Polo logo. Now that bit is very, very us... because, as we say, if it ain't worth overdoing, then it ain't worth doing.

Woman journalist questions male audiences preference for action heroes

-

This summer's unleash of comic book heroes on the big screens prompted Tribune newspapers writer Rebecca Keegan to pen "Flex time" in which she questioned the merit of so much cinematic muscular action on male audiences. Her cornerstone concern: Muscular summer actions have swaggered back into style [as opposed to the prima donna pretty boys, anti-heroes, and boyish action stars like Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider Man] but what are they saying to male audiences?

My beef with this 'concern' is why isn't it ever asked aloud regarding the chorus line of effete, scrawny, unmanly and queer characters ubiquitous on television (cable and network) and popping up all over movies? Seems to be that influence warrants an obvious "Hmmm?" But it's not asked in the Tribune newspapers or Newsweek or sophisticated style magazines - Esquire, GQ, Vanity Fair - because that would come off as, oh, intolerant...small-minded...homophobic...male chauvinistic.

Jason Momoa as Conan
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - the wonderful actor Guy Pierce was very believable! - Glee, The Big Bang Theory (which is not remotely funny), Ugly Betty apparently say nothing of import to the blockbuster demographic 17-34 y/o males but too many macho images and intellectuals want to organize dialogues. Thor, Captain America, the Green Lantern, Conan the Barbarian, and HBO's "Game of Thrones" all cut a swath through viewership this summer. No shortage of testosterone and biceps there!

All these manly muscle men leave some experts, according to Keegan, to "tempt men both in and outside of show business to consider using illicit products to keep up" because, hey, "steroid use still occurs in Hollywood."  There are also dozens of fitness centers and body transformers ("gym" is oh so Neanderthal) and real live models all over L.A. fueling the billion dollar fitness industry. It is possible for boys and men to improve self-esteem via building muscle and to go at it naturally and sanely. The question isn't what influence behemoth action characters have on men - that's obvious - but why male audiences still prefer said characters? But, then again, that's obvious too --it's just a thorn in some academics' sides.

When in Vancouver root for the Blackhawks

-
My interest in hockey is on par with wanting a yeast infection. But I find myself in Vancouver the same time as the Chicago Blackhawks are battling against the Canucks for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It was hard finding any watering hole that was not showing the game thus putting a damper on my appetite for an afternoon cocktail. (Plus drinks are a bit costly here. Canadian prices are a trip + tax!) Eventually my thirst for the elixir vitae won out and I left the Same Sun Hostel in search of a less rowdy lot of drinking fans. It was the third quarter, which I would soon learn represents the final quarter in the sport. Score was tied 2:2.

Still what cared I for the game? Hungrily sipping my glass of wine (Gato Negro, Cabernet Sauvignon) and reading The Life of Pi I was content to be the oddball at the bar with a book. I was right: the crowd was a less rowdy one...more semi-posh, as it were. Then a red jersey scored another point and, unthinkingly, my fist pumped the air, Yes! Suddenly poor little Pi on his makeshift raft was old news. Then from a far wall of the rink the puck again soared through space and squarely into the Canuck's net. Chicago 4:Vancouver 2. The less rowdy semi-posh crowd groaned their dissatisfaction at the inevitable. Only seconds remained and the home team would need more than that to taste victory tonight. Go, Chicago, go! I had no idea hockey could be so entertaining.

Canada gets the last laugh

-
Not only did the national team avenge themselves to win the gold medal in hockey but they won the whole damn Winter Olympics. Oh those crafty Canucks!! Who knew?

Canucks lose hockey game...to American Yanks?!

-

What, what eh? The American hockey team of  relative unknown athletes beat the Canadian dream team 5-3 for the first time in half a century! In Canada before a pro-Canada crowd (naturally) and being watched by the world community...on the Olympic stage.

Oh but it gets better.

This upset comes one day shy of Canada's most glorious monumental victory over then-powerhouse Russia thirty years ago. Reversal of fortune is a bitch.

So much for all those suckers who placed their bets on the no-brainer Canada. Oh well if these American govt bailouts has taught me one thing it's easy come, easy go. Although the host country isn't out of the running and still has opportunity to win Olympic gold, which I find confusing, but, honestly I don't get most of winter sports, tonight all of Canuckistan will be drinking aplenty to drown out the unbelievably victorious chants of USA! USA! USA!

Olympic medal tally...a conspiracy?

-
Writer Chris Chase of Yahoo!.com's "Fourth-Place Medal" sports web blog asserts that the USA is not leading in medals when it comes to counting "REAL" medals. By "real" (his emphasis, not mine) he means events not decided by judges. Hmmm. Is his argument just bunk or wishful thinking? It is thought-provoking and, therefore, I bother to direct you to it (USA! USA! USA!):

The REAL medal count: U.S. has fewer golds than Germany, Norway
