Larry Scott, champion bodybuilder 1938-2014

I just learned Larry Scott passed away over a week ago. Only yesterday I was flipping through my collection of Physique Pictorial and paused to look at a photograph of him posing his bicep. I am a little surprised not to have heard about his death in more real-time. Even though I haven't a television I read the headlines daily and follow some fitness and bodybuilding Twitter accounts. Guess that speaks volumes of the state of the sport. (I bet if any bodybuilder had, say, died from cardiac arrest owing to preparation for a contest before/during/after the event there would have been a media frenzy cautioning (parents) against the dangers of the sport.)

In addition to his regional, Mr America and Mr Universe titles, Mr Scott was the first winner of the Mr Olympia competition, a contest invented and organized by Canadian muscle entrepreneur Joe Weider and brother. He successfully defended the title the following year -- and promptly retired. At 28 years old! Years later he would admit the real motivation behind the unexpected move: fear. In biblical parlance, what gains a man if he has everything but loses his soul? Mr Scott, newly wed, uprooted from L.A. and resettled in Utah where he gained spiritual fulfillment in Mormonism and operated gyms and fitness supplement businesses.  

When I was in the 7th Grade I remember reading an ad in a comic book  and writing to Larry Scott for the advertised booklet on muscle building. He never replied and I never got the booklet, and I wrote him an angry letter in turn. From that point onward I didn't like him so much. (But years later when I got into the sport and modeling his images were among the dozens I would photocopy to study and practice in my room and gym mirrors; yes all those mirrors serve a real purpose, folks.) Mr Scott's health and vigor were impeccable and his legendary biceps were authentically some 20" big...unlike this fool here.

The druglord Nazario "El Chayo" Moreno (aka El Mas Loco 'the Craziest One') was a brutal sonofabitch who headed the powerful, ruthless Knights Templar cartel before being killed in 2010. But, just like a cheesy plot in the telenovelas (soap operas full of shouting and ham acting), it turns out the Crazy One wasn't dead at all! Could it have been a serious case of diarrhea or had he - or someone - faked his death. Fact is, his corpse was never found back then. Normally this would remain a cold case BUT in Mexico where over 300 low-skilled females mysteriously turned up dead in Ciudad Juarez, alone, since around 1993 and the pornography of death is routinely broadcast on the news as well as casually enjoyed in publications such as Alarma! it is not, then, so surprising that a suddenly unseen individual would logically been declared dead. 

Now, according to immediate statements from the Mexican gov't, the cartel and the nation's marines had a gunfight last night, March 9th, in Michoacan in which it is believed El Mas Loco became El Muerto (the Dead One) -- pending the coroner's review.

Job training program charged with money laundering

And, no, oddly enough, they were not training participants to operate dry cleaners. We Are Our Brother's Keepers, a Chicago-based job-training program proposed to pull up low-income blacks and Latinos living without any real shot out from under the disadvantaged poverty line, received a $1.25 million state grant in 2009. The program's target was to train 40 people with brick-laying and electrician skills. Not the most lofty careers but, then again, with construction being one of the fifth seasons in Chicago it would likely lead to steady work and, of course, earning a living from a day's honest work does a man good.

Unfortunately the IRS believes the only training being done was to the inside of the purse holders', well, purses. In a word, money laundering. And thousands of dollars' worth of it. The prosecutors have begun laying out their case in court. Personally, I always smell something fishy - and I don't like fish - in groups and places with such bona fide reassuring handles. I would never reside on, say, Wonderful Street or Happy Hills; marry a girl called Delight; donate to the coffers of Making The World A Better Place; or trust Homeland Security. If the title has to be that propagandized, then it is to lull you into a false sense of security, to mislead, to pull the old bait and switcheroony.

I snapped the above picture of a window display in West Hollywood, California, a portion of town for whom butt-fucking and naked torsos is as important as spying is to the NSA. Notice how the West is hellbent on making this Winter Olympics more about homosexuality than anything else in the whole wide scheme of things. I'm sure Russia has political corruption, maybe many families living below the poverty line, factory pollution of natural resources or child drug-trafficking but, amazingly, these credible blemishes don't offend Western sensibilities! And since we're apparently too bored to focus on world athletics and not interested in real problems we dwell on the fact that Russia, unlike America and England, doesn't have an overly secular society with a deluge of gay sitcoms, gay game shows, corporate sponsored gay festivals and mediocre gay athletes (who, let's be honest, only garner publicity for who they boing in private).  

When we die, we are all the same. This propaganda does not center on life, but death because the homosexual agenda is about anti-life. Haven't you noticed? Party until you drop...live recklessly because you only get one life to live...behave according to your whims and urges because no one else matters but you. Yes, we're all the same when we die: DEAD. But it is what we do while above ground that distinguishes us. It is how we live our lives that can make each of us very much un-same. A Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior is not the same as an atheist who rejects the existence of God; a health-conscious active individual is not the same as a couch potato who stuffs his pie whole with junk-food; a disciplined head of household who balances his family expenses is not the same as one who expects a gov't check and expects the gov't to look out for him; one who seeks out fine art and culture is far from being the same as the dullard who feasts on tabloids and reality TV; nor are all sexual practices equal opposites of another. Painting President Putin in drag is a shitty way of advancing a cause. He is not a homosexual and he does not cross-dress. Deal with it.

But it is what we do while above ground that distinguishes us. It is how we live our lives that can make each of us very much un-same 

The Olympic Games are about athletes from all over the globe competing in legitimately sanctioned contests for pride and country. The U.N. is the world body that is charged with instigating change in sovereign nation's gov't. In the meantime, boycott Russian exports if you must but quit the bitching and let Russians impact Russia's laws. Stop imposing Western liberal values on others.

Mandatory condoms in California porn

AIDS Health Foundation (AHF) has won a tremendous victory over the porn industry in California. Today Judge Mary Droyovage (say, are all court judges female??) put the smackdown on the Industry's claim of freedom of expression and intrusive gov't by mandating porn productions equip their employees with prophylactics. This went from being an L.A. County specific law to - ta-daa! - a decision that effects the entire state of California.   

Unbelievably, porn studios quibbled over the performers being defined as employees. They still vehemently argue the sex machines are "independent contractors" and, therefore, not covered by the workplace safety laws concerning exposure to blood.

As to the Industry's pathetic argument that "consumers don't want to see condom porn" I ask, What consumers? Most of the bastards refuse to even pay for it, gleefully opting  instead to steal via filesharing. "Why," I've often heard the cynics sneer, "should I pay to see people having sex? It's not like they're working." Well! With an ungrateful market like this who needs detractors?! Rest assured, consumers of porn will keep on watching porn, period. It's simple: a pervert has to get his rocks off somehow and, Lord knows, with the permanency of the Internet and social media he hasn't the necessary social skills to actually meet and hook-up with real live human beings in the flesh. 

Besides the concerted efforts of such groups as AHF, OSHA et al. for mandatory condom use today's landmark verdict was lubricated by the surprising legal move of San Francisco porn studio Treasure Island Media who, rather than flagrantly flaunt the law and pay the hefty fine like other studios, chose to pursue the big bad heroic route by appealing. They lost.

Highjacking MLK legacy

Blacks are everybody's scapegoat. When any organized group, no matter how disparate, start kicking up sand and demanding better treatment said group always aligns themselves with us black people. Because as black people we are expected to know the depths of pain, sorrow, degradation and, further, to unquestionably sign on to everyone's cause du jour. Only, as black people, we are not expected to know the heights of corporate success, equity, upward mobility -- outside of entertainment.

Homosexuals have been whining for quite some time about their parity with the black race and now that chutzpah has shown even in their association with the AIDS disease. (If it isn't a race thing, then why not saddle up to the exclusive Chinese/Korean/Malaysian/Indian communities; or the unavoidably large illegal Latino population?) 
I took snapshots of these actual billboards towering throughout Hollywood in time for the national holiday in his honor. The organization behind this propaganda is the otherwise commendable AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). For the record, AIDS is not a civil rights issue and associating Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr with it is a goddamn crying shame.

AIDS and MLK go together like obesity and Abraham Lincoln. The AHF missed the mark with this campaign.

Dr King was a Christian minister and I have rarely met homosexuals or those on the party circuit who embrace/reflect/strive towards Christian living. Instead, such people categorize themselves as "spiritual" and articulate disdain for organized religion. Their's is a doctrine that encourages hedonism or doing-whatever-makes-you-feel-good. That ain't Christianity. Christian doctrine has principles not least of which is a restraint of our very human carnal urges and desires, stretching from love-making to hatred. Dr King was liberal in as much as he challenged the white establishment in the 1960s for equality but he would not condone the abject vulgarity and looseness of today's America with its abandonment of family values, rejection of Christian teachings, the retardation of black dignity and the misappropriation of the Black Civil Rights Movement by the homosexual agenda. He was not the opportunist that so many of our religious leaders are today. And, yes, he was a religious man. 

AIDS is not a civil rights issue

Being "born this way" holds no truck. We all fall short of the glory of God but only the lost and wicked take it as a license to maintain a distance from His glory, wallowing in their un-holy shortcomings as a rat in sewage. And the media which say it is okay to live like this are spewing propaganda at odds with Dr King's messages. AIDS is a very real and very important problem which the world must confront creatively, fervently, and compassionately but hijacking our icons is not the way to win over people. AIDS and MLK go together like MLK and amputees, or obesity and Abraham Lincoln. Bad education is no different than an unjust law: they both influence/effect people's lives detrimentally. The AHF missed the mark with this campaign. You don't raise people up by desecrating their hero's legacies.

I like wearing bandanas. They're practical, easy to carry and accessorize. And they look cool. But when I saw the above on display in a Van Nuys Dollar Tree store I paused and thought to myself: Seriously in L.A.?! Will this sunny cesspool never learn?

For those unfamiliar with Los Angeles gang history, the Bloods (red) and Crips (blue) are two of the largest and most deadly organized street gangs. One needn't be from California or in law enforcement to have heard of them. Like Hell's Angels, their reputations precede them. They are bad ass black criminal sonsofbitches who do battle over territory they don't - and never will - own. They've shed rivers of blood and wasted youth on a Shakespearean level. The gang violence of Los Angeles is the backdrop of a  Hollywood movie directed by Dennis Hopper and starring Robert Duvall and Sean Penn called Colors (1988). 

On the one hand, no, there is nothing inherently bad - or suggestive - about a red bandana or a blue bandana or a green bandana any more than there is in  wearing a hoodie or high heels. But if you're a diabetic counseling center it probably wouldn't be the smartest move to open up shop next to a pastry chef. And the fact that the L.A. store only had bandanas in those two colors really is a head-scratcher that makes me question management.

Yeah, it was senseless but rudeness is the first step towards violence. He should have died for something greater than being a jerk. And, guess what, he was shot to death by an old retired pig. Justified!

Why Liberals never impose their values on others

Don't impose your values on others, goes the conventional wisdom of broad minded peoples. It's quickly followed by the rhetorical, Who are we? What makes us think we're any 'better'? by which they wiggle the index and middle fingers of both hands to emphasize quotation marks. 

Did you ever notice this tolerance Molotov is only ever lopped at God-fearing Christians and conservatives...and rarely, if ever, at something that's acutely at home on the Liberal agenda? That's because Liberals don't champion agendas. They are for "human rights," not agendas. Another explanation owes to this simple fact: suicide by Molotov cocktail has yet to catch on -- with anyone. 

DON'T ACCEPT CANDY FROM STRANGERS

No, Liberals don't see the missionary work they do as imposing their values on others (these are values everyone should embrace); as being resistant to other's ways and customs (tradition is another word for oppression); and Liberals most certainly can't fathom how their ardent beliefs can possibly be construed as insensitive. But when the West goes traipsing its wanton, amoral celebrities throughout the world with its messages of Equality, Tolerance, Democracy one must step back and try to imagine how this appears to the persons receiving the charity. I'm reminded of the fixed parental warnings: DON'T GET IN THE CAR WITH STRANGERS and DON'T ACCEPT CANDY FROM STRANGERS and LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROSS THE STREET.

So because "we" have working mothers and child daycare, "they" would do well to have it too; "we" celebrate same-sex unions/adoptions/lifestyles therefore so should "they"; "we" accept religion as another style of philosophy - and convenient vehicle for social goings-on like funerals or marriages - but "they" tend to take it too seriously; "we" freely enjoy depictions of sex and violence in entertainment and the sky hasn't fallen so, c'mon, what gives? Get with it.

I wonder if "we" are any better for having gotten with it.

Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade, who was arrested a month ago in Manhattan for visa fraud (and mistreating her foreign maid), was released on bail and "asked" by the State Dept to leave the United States. So often is it the case that employers from the East use their servants as, essentially, slave labor. They don't pay the poor girls, verbally and emotionally (and sometimes physically) abuse them and, like Khobragade, dangle the threat of deportation.

This time, the high-and-mighty bitch got her comeuppance. Go home slave driver!

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that Mexicans are very color-conscious -- and far from being above racism. There is a small population of native born black people in the country but from the stares and pointed fingers I get (even when I have my shirt on) it is evident seeing real-live black persons is still a novelty. Just to be clear, the year is now 2013.

While waiting for my bus connection at the San Bernardino, California, Greyhound Station (I was directed to the wrong door (from Downtown LA), consequently boarded the wrong bus, and, as a logical result, missed my proper connection) I got into an exchange of opinions with the neon-jacketed "security" - aka rent-a-cop - who promptly got on her walkie-talkie and called for backup to "handle this bitch."

Then she tried to get up in my face - personal space! - to aggravate me further, insulting, if you can believe it, my mode of travel. According to her, only poor "broke, ghetto" people use Greyhound. Oh really?!
Then her superior who had came to "handle" me thought I would step outside in the parking lot to discuss things. Hell no!

I summoned the will - thankfully! - to walk away from them (rather than smack her across the goddamn mouth) and flipped the script: I requested the Greyhound staff call the police. They did. And I waited about an hour for their arrival. (You can be sure there wouldn't have been a wait if a woman, especially a white woman, had called the pigs). I sat and chilled in the lobby; because I sure as hell was not trusting the situation to step outside with those rent-a-cop fools. The supervisor even had a pistol! No sooner had I crossed the door then they would have warned me against trespassing if I made to re-enter. See, this is how shit plays out with young, black males. Whether you believe it or not. I personally believe black women love putting us in jail...makes for a powerful kick as we, black men, are always mindful of being just a phone call away from being locked-up.

When the San Bernadino copper finally showed up tempers had cooled. But I feel he did not take my complaint seriously because even though, as he explained, "it is not a crime to be an asshole" it would have been treated as a crime had I insulted the woman and made her feel threatened. Don't be surprised when I tell you the pig was black, himself. Evidently his uniform deludes him of the fact that he is just plain black-black without it.

The officer's prudent morality deemed my "sex paraphernalia"(e.g., condoms, sexy underwear, an X-rated DVD) conclusive grounds that I was seeking to sneak into the UK for illegal/criminal activity.

Homosexuals angry they cannot donate blood

Homosexuals are incensed the nation's thirty year long ban on accepting blood donations from homosexual and bisexual men persists. They call it discriminatory. Which it is. And that's a good thing. They call it outdated. Well, thirty years is getting 'up there' in years but "outdated"? They argue it's simply not right and therefore wrong. And that's where they are wrong.

A victory for gay blood donations would be a defeat for everyone else. And, ya know, there is a truism playing out here: some people are willing to 'win' so long as everyone loses. It's a psychology thing. But, since homosexuality is no longer deemed a psychological malady then there must be some other explanation for this high-risk group's determination to donate their blood to the general blood bank.

But there are powerful groups out there which are very, very concerned about population control and time's they are a-changing. Mark my words.

The importance of font in communique

To this day, I still write hand-written correspondence. That means letters and post cards via the postal service and, even, long, thoughtful email. In writing that, I realize that "hand-written" and "correspondence" sound unduly antiquated. Pity.

It wouldn't be so bad if the means of electronic mail (e-mail) were so universal and paramount, due to its type set, but, unfortunately, it's become less individual than that owing to text messages (SMS) and Twitter. When one has limited space - as inside of a televised commercial break (this is what led to Jesse Jackson inventing his rhymes) or on Twitter (140 characters per message or 'tweet') - or funds (e.g., telegrams) then one must convey himself as clearly as possible as cogently as possible; BUT when one has ample space and only wishes to communicate "What's up?" and yet writes "Wat up" then, yes, that writer broadcasts himself as a grammatically illiterate dumbass.  Of course, anyone who has enough wherewithal to use the Internet is not legally mentally retarded which only leaves the following option: lazy dumbass.

I simply wept when I read the unbelievable and horrific story of the little brother tortured by his family. I don't watch the News and learning of these sadists was no way to start my morning -- except to be thankful that I have a good morning!

Yaron Brooks gives a cogent and rational explanation for Gov't's role in handling discrimation in the land. I do not side 100% with the cornerstone of his argument because the rationalization is overly  optimistic and overly theoretical. But, however, the premise that people should be rational and principled enough to reject dispassionate and barbaric attitudes/conduct (non-sporting) without depending reflexively on gov't to sort out it is strong.

NYC was called to task for its unconstitutional Stop-and-Frisk protocol. It is unconstitutional because the practice directly went against the  individual's freedom from unreasonable and unwarranted searches and seizures (that's spelled out in the Fourth Amendment, by the way).

When the FACTS of evolutionary science are dismissed in lieu of popular culture, then that throbbing you feel behind your eye-balls is blood rushing to your head -- from being upside down for too long. Maybe the world looks better upside down but if you stay that way, you will die. The great scientist Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species - and most familiar tenet "survival of the fittest" - was an affront to paramount religious ignorance at the time (and still bothers modern day Creationists). Progressives championed Darwinism and science as a light bearer to mankind. Reason acknowledges the merit of his ground-breaking investigation and the bravery it took to publish and defend it. Now, our progressives of the day balk at and whine and threaten boycotts against anything which does not endorse or dares to judge cavalier popular culture -- including science. Oh how times have changed. 

Declaring that man is meant for woman and woman, for man is only radical or controversial for a mixed-up peoples; for a narcissistic, coddled, short-sighted peoples weaned on disposable instant gratification and the virtues of glamour, indiscretion, globalization. To the latter: If we believe and accept this over here, then y'all over there must believe it, too.

Over a span of eight years, Buffalo, NY, meter mechanic James Bagarozzo spent half of his work days breaking machines in order to fix his income...oh and have extra gambling money. When the authorities finally caught his clever ass they found more than $40,000 stashed throughout his house, some of it still in rolled coins. In all, the mechanic ripped off the city to the tune of $200,000+!

Some good came of it though. Mr Bagarozzo was able to send both daughters off to college AND pay off the mortgage. Let's hope they're not majoring in accounting. Hello!

Danger in [Social Media] clubs

Being lonely is a sad thing, but not the most terrible thing in the world, (being dead or in jail would be much worse, don't you agree?) It is natural to want to meet new people who share our interests, but this must always be done with extreme caution. Make yourself a pleasant, helpful person who can be part of a well established group, that invites new members with discretion and makes them prove themselves before they are put in a position of trust. Every area has such groups, and by inquiring enough you are certain to find them.

These smart people are too busy getting high! Too busy to care that illegal immigrants operate with a gun to their heads; too busy to care that they, marijuana users, support drug trafficking. They'll organize a boycott against any company that doesn't support liberal agendas (think Chick-Fil-A, Home Depot, Russian vodkas) but won't dare boycott their junky habits. And should you speak ill of drug use the cry goes up, Don't be judgmental! Who are YOU to judge me?

The story of desperate and unskilled Latin Americans risking life and limb to sneak into the United States of America for the dream of earning $6/hr is very, very real. And sad.
